The Annual Family Picnic is a function that has gone on for years, a picnic (formerlly in Eklutna) where GLBTQ and friends would just gather every Memorial Day.  They have games, food, etc... mostly just people hanging out and soaking up the sun.

Someone told me that it cannot be in Eklutna because Prevo (or his church?) bought up the land.  Hate mongerers... Oh well, now it will be in town, on public land, more fags can go and it can be more 'in your face' to those bastards :-p  My only wish is that it could have been in a park right in Prevo's back yard... hahaha

I'm not sure WHO boought the land, I understand that the land has been sold, and is no longer available to rent (by anyone).  It's kinda sad, because I enjoyed going out there every year and it's become more or less a good tradition.
As for the picnic itself, it's a great way to start the season, got out of your hibernation mode, and be a bit more social.  It's always fun to see people that I haven't seen in awhile, and watch the games going on, from the high heel races and the egg toss to the volleyball.  It's fun for me because I get to bring my snake and carry her around, let people who never get a chance to interact with snakes to see that they're great pets.  People bring their dogs, and some bring their cats, and overall it's just a great time in the sun!!  It's also a nice mini-preview of Pridefest!!!

I remember Fox and I's first Gay memorial Day Picnic.....Im1 walks up to us and asks us if we would like to go out to his jeep and see his snake....well our morbid cursity had to say yes...though we know it wasn't what our dirty minds thought it was, we were still suprised that he actually had a snake...and then when he asked if we wanted to hold it....Ya that was fun. Though walking through the woods out there was nice....I did enjoy myself....but with the Good Johnathan leaving....Fox and I loose alot of the reason why we went to these functions. We went for him (sadly not for the community...)

Though this year we go for Im1

Last year's Memorial Day Picnic wasn't fun nor exciting for me. In fact, I didn't like it. :\ I didn't know much folks there so I pretty much kept myself company. The folks I did know were too busy doing their own thing.

But as for this year, since it will be in town, I'm sure there would be more folks coming. Hopefully this time I'll be with a group that won't leave me behind. XP

Also, when is Pride? I'm almost positive I'll be missing it this year due to vacation. If that's the case, I'll most likely go to the Memorial Day Picnic. Hopefully the weather won't be crazy as it was withing the past month.

You know, it seems to me that maybe (just maybe) some people wouldn't have such a problem with the gay lifestyle if it wasn't rubbed in their face so often.  Think about it: do you ever see "The BIG STRAIGHT Memorial Day Picnic" happening?  It just seems exclusive (as in, it excludes people) to me, and that doesn't feel right from either side of the proverbial fence.

Or maybe I should stop having profound thoughts at three o'clock in the morning. *shrug*

Of course, there will always be people who hate gay people for whatever reason.  My pet theory is that oversexed, testosterone-loaded hetero males are secretly insecure about their own sexuality and project that fear outward as hatred of gay men.  On the other hand, people simply fear what they don't understand, and aggression is a gut reaction to fear.

Look at me ramble!  I need more coffee...
