ettiquette when borrowing someone's laptop
« on: 2008, June 11, 11:32:41 pm »
I let my brother borrow my computer, and he deletes all my cookies every time. This outrages me... but should it?

Where do you all draw your line on cyber-crimes? Does it annoy you when people infect your computer with viruses from manga-pirating sites and delete your cookies? Or are you one of those people who freak out whenever a foreign finger touches a key on your baby, and password-lock your computer whenever you go to the bathroom?

I used to get outraged when he put bookmarks in my computer, or saved files to my desktop. Now those are okay with me, but messing with my cookies still crosses the line. Anyone else feel the same, or, more extreme about regulating their computer's use? Is this kind of thing macho-terroritialism, or are "personal computers" really such?
honestly, if the joker wanted me to get banned from this website, i would. he is the epitome of human accomplishment. i love him.

My laptop...my cookies...IF you get to use the laptop, you give it back in the condition you borrowed it in, or you NEVER use it again...understood from a week before the said borrowing happens.

That's my policy...

I let people use my pc. But I have it set up to track alot of what they do. I delete my cookies and interenet stuff often so that would not bother me. But I am always entertained to see what they do when they use it when I am asleep. hehe.
Glad to be of Service.

Have you people never heard of computer security through limited user accounts?  The Guest account is part of the default Windows installation for a reason, you guys.  Yeeeeesh.

I hate it when people use my computer, especially without asking, even when it's Cat.  This probably stems from my experience with an old friend of mine, Nic (Lazydullard should remember him :P) who would snoop through my computer when he'd use it, which always pissed me off.  That's how he originally found out I was gay, by snooping through my things and finding the hot gay Digimon erotica I wrote. :P  Oh, and the gay furry stories I used to write using my own fursona and one I made up to represent the guy I had a crush on in high school.  What really irritated me was the fact that Nic thought the other character was him because of similar names, even though it wasn't :P  Had I known he'd snoop and find it, I probably would have chosen a different name...

My own fault I guess.  His name was Nic, the character's name was Mik, 'cause I thought a short name was fitting and sounded kinda cute, although the character was really based off a kid I knew named Chris. :P  Oh well.

Anyways, uh, back on topic, I don't often let people use my computer for really any reason.  Cat occasionally uses my laptop, but it pissed me off one day when he mentioned that he doesn't store his message history from his IM programs on my laptop.  I never had any intention of snooping but was annoyed because it seemed like he thought I would.

my house is filled with computers. we have 2 networks each with 15 comps on them.
and i love messing with my friends when they get on them. i have the programs that lets the admin lock out all other computers. or take controll of each one individualy. its so much fun. and as for stuff being deleted "my definition of back up is move all my porn to the E Drive" lol

among other things... space is no problem i have several TB's of space but what i hate. is when my friends, or anyone gets onto the Admin  when im away. at anytime at all. Admin is off limits to everyone that i done know as much as myself
WOOF! ^_^ furry FTW!

i never use seperate accounts with my computer. it's like superstition. i'm afraid it might confuse my computer or make it love me less, or otherwise adversely affect performance. plus, it feels dirty to have somone else's "settings" stored on my computer.

i even got irritated and threatened to ban my comp usage when crystal would get permission from david to use my comp while i was at work and she'd close my browser windows. hello i lets a window with several tabs open halfway down the pages... maybe just maybe i wasn't done with them? y'know? but after threatening life and limb no one closes my tabs unless i do or i say to.

Then you have no cause for complaint, because you did it to yourself.
