How do you think we all came about?
Were do we all come from?
What came first. God or the universe?
Were did God Come from?
What are we created from?
What did history start?
Glad to be of Service.

Personally, I believe in the Big Bang theory more than any religious Creationism idea.  Even if it's not proven, or even really that strongly supported, I believe there's more physical evidence in the Big Bang theory being true than the "God created the universe" theory.  Of course, I don't see "We're here, so that proves God made us" as being valid evidence like some people can.

Now these aren't my personal beliefs, but I've heard some interesting ideas of the origins of the universe.

For one, there's the possibility that both science and (Christian) religion could be right.  It is certainly possible that some higher being caused what we know as the Big Bang, or that the actions of this being could only be comprehended by humans as the way the Big Bang is described.  I don't really know, no one really knows, so I can't say.

Of course, one idea (one that I don't think anyone seriously believes, but is fun to think about) is that maybe man created "God" which created a/the universe.  What if there was some point in the future where humans created a superior form of life that was capable of creating a universe?  Again, not something I believe, but it's fun to think about.

Another idea that I got from a video game that describes the whole "god" idea, and the origin of Earth (not the universe though) is that what we see as "god" could have just been a more advanced species in the universe that helped the human race progress.  I think a lot of older civilizations had a big thing for astrology, who is to say that there wasn't extra terrerstrial life helping us along as we were developing?  Of course there are also beliefs that people were generally a lot smarter back then.  There has been evidence that has shown certain things that we generally see as "modern inventions" (like indoor plumbing) that were actually created in very old civilizations.

I dunno really.  In general, I believe in science before anything else.  I'm an athiest though, what else would I believe?

I like you, Ben.  You can say you don't believe in something without being a jerk about it.

As far as the origins of the universe are concerned, I suppose my belief lies somewhere between Deism and Christianity.  I believe God set the universe in motion, and then sat back and watched it unfold.  It's like baking a cake.  You throw in all the ingredients and then put it in the oven.  But you don't stick your head in the oven and make all the chemical changes take place, do you?  That's how I think the universe is.

I differ from Deism in that I do think God intervenes every now and then.

Mmm...giant cake...

MILKY WAY® CAKE

8 2.15 ounce MILKY WAY® candy bars
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs, separated
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup pecans, chopped
6 ounces semisweet chocolate

Preheat oven to 325 F. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.

Melt candy bars and butter, stirring frequently, in large, heavy Dutch oven over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar.

Combine egg yolks, buttermilk and baking soda in small bowl until blended.

Combine flour and salt in another bowl. Add to candy mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Stir in pecans.

In clean mixer bowl, beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold into batter. Pour into prepared pan.

Bake 1 1/4 hours or until set and cake pulls away from sides of pan. Cool on wire rack 15 minutes. Unmold and cool completely.

Melt chocolate in top of double boiler over simmering water. Spread over cooled cake. Makes 16 servings.

Serving Size: 16.

The answers to all your questions.

[bible]Genesis 1-31[/bible]

[bible]Genesis 2-2[/bible]

That is the word of God, and the answer to everything about creation that man could ever ask. Why should people of faith need more than God's word?

My assumption is this, if folks of faith asked about the extent of creation other than "God", then they truly don't believe in God.

Could you explain that further?  I'm not sure, but it sounds like you're trying to say that if you question, it means you don't really believe in God.

Hmmm, how can I put this that can be understood to everyone and not in Beaner language? LOL.

If you take a look at a religious view point and how the church my mom goes to once preached, “you are either hot or cold”, “you are a sheep or a goat”, and “you are with God or against Him”. The whole “hot” and “cold” reference is referring to one is either 100% God’s follower or not. There is NO “luke warm”. If you believe in God yet don’t “follow” and doubt His words, then you are “cold” (basically meaning you are against Him). The whole “sheep” and “goat” reference is the same thing. The only difference to this one is that the “goat” refers to “Satan’s followers”.  As for the third saying, well, it’s pretty up forward.

If a follower of God and/or Jesus (how ever you see him as) wants to learn more in depth of what was said in the Bible, then there’s a shred of doubt. So for this example, if a follower doesn’t fully believe on how the earth was created from what the Bible says, then that follower is not actually a true follower of God.

Wow Kritter, you've just given a great example of how chuches have been, and still do, use fear to control large masses of people and get them to believe what they want.  "You're with us or you're against us" is never a good way of going about things.

I think it's kinda sad that there are people that follow churches like that.  What I'm referring to are the churches that discourage or even forbid original thought.  I think the only way you can truly understand anything is to be able to question it.  Especially since if you question something extensively and still believe in it, you'll have a much stronger belief in it.

Some churches must just be afraid that doubt will lead to their members leaving the church.  I mean seriously, how many people would stick with a church that teaches you to fear God if they had doubts about if fear is really the way?  Especially if during their time of questioning, they find out there are much more accepting churches that teach you about God's love instead of God's wrath.
