Luke 14:26 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
[NIV at IBS] [International Bible Society] [NIV at Zondervan] [Zondervan]

26"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.

Wow I think man was just told that if he does not hate his family and himself, he is not a disciple of Christ.

*oh ya I know i took it wAAAAY out of context*

What it's supposed to mean, as retarded as it seems, is less love for everything else than for Christ. Because the bible teaches you to love God and Jesus more than anything, and if you ignore them even for a second, to tend to your family or whatever, you are a bad, bad monkey. So really, you aren't far off man. You're not supposed to outright hate them for no reason, you just aren't supposed to care about them as much as the Father and the Son. Which is retarded.

I can understand. Love your God....But placing him above your family. Isn't that a bit... well stupid?

This crap is just high-strung pretentious posturing and some vain attempt in impressing people with 'shock biblical values'

I didn't say I agree to it. My belief is the Gods and Goddesses are examples, not things to be humbled before and worshipped zealously. Family is all important. That's why as angry as they make me, and as vile as I see them, I will not strike down a kinsman. I'll beat the holy living hell out of them, but they'll survive. And I won't hold a grudge.

And yes, Oni. It is incredibly stupid. I've been Christian, I've been Atheist, I've been Heathen. And out of the three heathen is the only one that makes sense. Christian it's "Don't kill... unless they believe in a different god. Love your fellow man... unless you want slaves from them. Don't eat certain animals, or wear certain things... but you are supposed to lord over and rule the entire earth, including plants and animals." It's all too contradictory for me.

Some Christians have other ideals. Like the bible is guidelines, as opposed to strict rules. And those ones are the cool ones that I can get along with. The others make me want to raze their church. The ones that think they are better than you because you don't follow their beliefs. The ones that think homosexuality can be cured like the flu.

I have a comment to all you religious idiots. pray all you like. You aren't curing the gays I know.

You'll cure em like cancer. It'll seem like all is well until they have an outbreak.

It's just another example of contradiction in the bible. For example:

Romans 13:9-10

The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet,"and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

or even

John 13:34-35, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

But Luke says:

Luke 14:26

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.

WHAT THE HELL?

See it was things like that made me stop being Christian. Too many discrepancies, too large a margin for error.

Basically I cannot follow a god who cannot make up their mind.
