FURever Frozen Alaska Furcon
« on: 2008, December 10, 08:10:13 pm »
Great name for a convention. I can do commisions for fursuit parts and art. Let's get the date figured out. Also, I have a awsome benner. It has the big dipper in the back ground and standing in front of it is a little fox who is blowing out frosty air. Anyway, I will try to upload it. See what you guys think.

No, (everything)'s... pretty encompassing.

I have a couple questions. I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes.

1. What time of the year are you looking at?
2. Where are you looking at having it?
3. What is the cost going to be to get Hotel or Banquet hall, whatever?

I know there are bound to be more things to get setup but I'm not sure what else.

I would have to say some time in the summer. July or Aug I would think would be the best times. That its summer is easer to get people up here if we want to have any guest speakers or special guests come up.

How many local artists would have booths For sure AKComic would have a booth.
Location. I would think Anchorage. (just cause I am lazy) lol. Plus that way we could have an activity at zoo, and maybe an out door picnick, take over the mall, ect. LOL.
If we got a Hotel or Banquet we would have to look into the costs of that by contacting hotels. Hotels per night are normaly 100+ per night and that's  with a huge event deal.

It is also possible for people here in town to volinteer floor space to crash for the night. LOL.

I would love to put on a FucCon here in AK so I say lets do it.

What kinda of experiance do people have in this, what kinda roles would they like to play? Would we charge entry to our furcon? Ect?
Glad to be of Service.

I would have to agree about doing it in the summer. I think there should be a better turn out around Memorial day, 4Th of July or Labor day for the long weekend that would give more travel time. Need to check the schedule for the other conventions so we are not trying to do it at the same time. Maybe in September when the tourest season is winding down the hotels would give us a better rate.

I think Anchorage would be a good start. Would depend on how many people attend.  I think the main problem is our location, most people will drive a few hours to get to a convention but I don't think very many are willing to drive a few days for the same thing.

Anyone have any idea how we can get some idea how many people might show up?

I'm afraid I wont be able to do very much, in the spring I head out to a mine and am gone for most of the summer. I can help with ideas but other than that I don't know.

I would aim to keep the con outside of other con times.

Example: Anthrocon is July 1-5, which I'll be attending. ;)

I agree we should try and not do a con at the same time as others, but it might be a little hard to avoid all of them. These are just a few of the cons I was able to find.

Anthrocon: Pittsburgh, PA, July 2-5, 2009

Further Confusion: SanJose, Ca, Jan 22-26, 2009

Midwest Furfest: Wheeling, Il, Nov 21-23, 2008

Furry Weekend: Atlanta, Ga,  March 19-22, 2009

Mephit Fur Meet: Memphis, Tn, Sep 4 - 6, 2009

FurFright Waterbury: Ct, Oct 17-19 2008

Califur: Irvine, Ca, Jun 5-7 2009

Megaplex: Kissimmee, FL July 24-26, 2009.

Furry Connection North: Novi, Mi April 24 to 26, 2009

Rainfurrest: Seattle, Wa, Sep 18-20 2009

Rocket City Furmeet: Huntsville, Al May 22-24 2009

Rocky Mountain Fur Con: Denver Co May 23-25 2008

Ok now.

Where do we want to have it?
Who is going to pay for it initially?
What are we going to do there?
How are we going to get people up from stateside?
If we had a Special Guest who would it be?
Glad to be of Service.

Well, reserving a couple of hotel rooms sounds good, but if you don't think you can afford it, then a park is your next best bet. However, you will need a permit: http://www.muni.org/parks/reserve.cfm#events It's also a good idea not to move around too much, especially if you are going to have booths. You might want to call the municipality for more information

You should get a group together that are especially interested and make a fundraiser to raise the money. Also, try setting up a PayPal account to receive donations from people interested that live out of state.

Some simple games, maybe a couple of raffles and contests (fur suit, costume, coloring, etc.) Maybe get some music to play in the background. Oh, maybe a table to decorate a name tag. No yiffing. :p

Create a website. I also think that advertising on a few popular furry websites would be a good idea. But, unless other furs are interested in coming to Alaska I doubt we will get many lower 48 furs to come. It's kind costly. :/

You should ask around for a special guest. Just thinking of one won't really help. Sadly, I don't think anyone would be really interested in coming all the way up to Alaska for a small convention. Unless of course you either pay their way, or you are referring to someone locally.

Hope that helps. I would really like to attend. :)
