Just Thoughts.
« on: 2009, January 07, 09:56:48 am »
Idk if I should be posting this so soon, I don't want to give a bad impression.

But ah well...

So, I'm a Christian.

I can understand why a lot of you might not like Christians, I can't stand many of them because all they do is bash things and tell people everything they are doing wrong... which defeats the whole purpose of being Christian, I'd think.

Whatever.

But I was thinking the other day...

Okay, I have snakebites (piercings on each side of my lower lip).

Some Christians say that people should NOT have piercings or tattoos, because it says so in the Bible.

But most Christians these days have piercings and/or tattoos.

My theory behind this, the reason it says not to get them in the Bible is because back then it was a lot more dangerous and risky to go poking holes in yourself.  There was no way of keeping them clean, and they'd get horribly infected and it was really disgusting.

Of course nowadays, we have ways of keeping it clean and dealing with it if it gets infected.

Same goes for the whole do-not-eat-pork thing, it's not because there's anything morally wrong with eating pork, it's because back then all the pigs were diseased and stuff.

So I was wondering if the no sex before marriage thing had to do anything with std's or population control... and no, I'm not using that as an excuse to go have sex all over the place... I was simply wondering.

Because now we have ways of being "safe" (even tho nothing is *completely* safe...LOL).

Also with the whole gay thing... like... it never says in the bible that it's not okay for a man to love another man, it's only talking sexually.   And maybe there were more sexual diseases back then...

I don't know!  Either way, I think I sound pretty stupid right now... I tried to have this discussion with other people, but they are too close-minded.

*sighhh*

Also, I don't take the Bible literally.  I think it's just kind of a learning book, with good things to live by, and is not meant to be taken that seriously.

Please don't bash me for expressing my thoughts, it was just something that I wanted opinions on!

Please don't ever be afraid to post your thoughts on our site. People will post there opinions about your thoughts in response, as long as you don't sound stupid there is a very good chance you wont get bashed.

Me personaly, like many other here. Don't have a problem with Christians, Jew, Muslims, ect....Well ok I think we all have a thing for the MorMan Church. I mean a church that sends two cute boys to your door is  always a nice church. Saves me the trouble of having to call. LOL.

The Bible In my views was written both for the time and as a book of "Good ideas." Nothing to be taken literally.

People that claim to take the Bible as the one true word of God, and Claim to fallow every word in it are almost always (cause I am sure there is the few weirdo's that try) full of it. The Bible says it's okay to beat your children, and a women on that time of the month should never be around a priest for they are unclean. Stupid stuff like that.

But wait though, all that is said in the old Testament and when Jesus came he apearently did away with the laws of the Old Testament. Makes ya wonders. The 10 Commandments were in the Old Testament. Do we not have to fallow those anymore?

A lot of things in the Bible are about Control. And what better way to control a person that telling them if they don't do as you say you "Eternal" Soul is going to burn in Hell.

Although Jesus did take away all our sins, so by default we should get into "Heaven."

Where did Jesus say that Gay is bad? (not trying to make this a gay conversation just asking a question to make a point)

You want to talk with Open minded people. My dear you have come to the right place.

I think about the only people we are Intolerant against is Intolerant People.

*tosses a water balloon at ya*
Glad to be of Service.

Not only is that not specifically stated in the Bible (it says "no fornicators will be allowed into heaven," but it doesn't define that word, nor is there any indication of the original hebrew word that was used in that passage - the Bible is the most notoriously mistranslated document in human history), it has nothing to do with the religion itself except for the fact that it's been accepted as dogma by hordes of Christians.  Was it about STDs?  Somewhat, because marrying a virgin was the only way to be sure that you could have sex with a woman without catching something, and men in the 13th and 14th century would pay good money to a girl's father for that.

The lines are being redrawn, more boldly as the 21st century progresses.  Religions of all kinds are learning that they either must grow with the times or lose their place entirely.  It's time to read the Bible for the collection of folk tales and metaphors that it really is, and not as a literal "word of The Almighty" that the hardcore would like to believe it to be.

Also with the whole gay thing... like... it never says in the bible that it's not okay for a man to love another man, it's only talking sexually.   And maybe there were more sexual diseases back then...

It's funny that if you actually LOOK at the verses that people use to bash homosexuality... Most of them are not about homosexuality. Sodom and Gomorrah? People use that to say OMG HOMOSEXUALITY because they were talking about pulling the angels out and having their way with them (essentially), but it could be about gang rape, rape in general... It never specifically says anything about having sex with the men being wrong, just the way they're doing it.

There's another verse where they translate a word as homosexual (I believe it's in a letter to one of the church's? I haven't researched this in awhile) and the actual words they translate from hebrew have no direct english translation, but essentially mean "young male prostitutes" and "older men".

There's only one verse that seems to actually bash homosexuality (The verse about not lying with a man like you would a woman, or something to that effect), but it seems pretty simple that due to the multiple problems that can arise when you have anal sex (I doubt they had traditional lube back then, so I'm sure tearing was more common) and the fact that they believed that the sperm held an entire child, seems to me that this is less OMG DONT HAVE GAY SEX JUST BECAUSE ITS WRONG and more OMG DONT HAVE GAY SEX CAUSE YOU'RE KILLING BABIES.
