1) (Anch) Youth Group Meets ...

This Young Adults Group will be especially fun. I do hope you all are feeling creative. The topic will be "How people see what you see." For this I have created a special exercise. It will allow you to see how others perceive what you see. And give you insight into your own actions.
 
As always this invite goes out to all the Young Adults of Anchorage; GBLTs alike; Everyone! These gatherings are a fun way to get to know other people in your neighborhood and have a good time. With this group we strive to make people feel welcome and accepted and join more people into circles of friendship. So do come and join in on the fun, we always have an enjoyable time, and bring a friend if ya can. Food and Drink are always supplied, so if nothing else, come for the food.

2) (Anch) Schoolhouse Dance ...

Two remaining Pioneer Schoolhouse dances of the season, on Saturday April 14th and Saturday May 12th.

Waltz will be the lesson in April, along with any requested dance review. Come out and have some fun! Beginners welcome and ya don't need a partner. Line dance, two-step, swing, salsa and more. Open to all. Lessons from 7pm to 8pm, open dance until 11pm. $5.00 admission or help with setup and take-down. Non-drinking, non-smoking. Great hardwood floor.

“Financial Planning for Domestic Partners” will be held at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center in Anchorage at 336 E.
5th Avenue, on Thursday, April 16, from 6 – 6:45 in the Conference Room.  Learn how to plan for your future together in this informal, no pressure setting guided by Corbin Sawyer of Merrill Lynch.  Have your questions answered by someone who knows and cares.   

7) GLBT Leadership Training ...

LGBT and Allies Leadership Training

Mission of the training:
 
The California Spring Leadership Training is an intensive training and action program for dedicated people who are highly motivated to be part of a large scale effort to educate people on a range of issues important to the LGBT community, including marriage equality. Attendees will learn the valuable skills necessary to both build a diverse coalition of supportive allies, and launch a statewide public education campaign in support of LGBT Equality.
 
Curriculum Overview:
 
The training will focus on cutting-edge skills and strategies necessary for building political, organizational, and community power. Topics will include:
 
- Training for teams of leaders who want to teach others how to be an effective part of the movement.
- Develop broader support for LGBT issues using tactics like house meetings and speakers bureaus.
- Create a sustained public education effort to increase acceptance of marriage equality.
- Recruit, develop and support the volunteers and leaders needed to build our public education effort.
-  Build progressive alliances and action-oriented coalitions across race, class, and gender lines.
 - Sharing the sophisticated research and forward-thinking strategies of the Equality Project.

Registration:  A non-refundable registration fee of $100 is required, which covers the costs of the training, daily parking, and breakfast and lunch each day. Participants are responsible for covering their travel, other food, and lodging costs.
 
Funding assistance: The Task Force has limited scholarships available for those unable to pay their full registration fees, and limited assistance funds to help cover a portion of travel and lodging costs.
 
Lodging: Hotel options TBA.  Limited community housing options are available.
 
Since enrollment is limited, please contact me ASAP if you are interested. And, in alignment with the mission of building a multi-identity team, transgender people, women, and people of color are highly encouraged to participate.

8) (Anch) 5 K Buffet: Graze to Raise ...

The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Anchorage is looking for people to join their “Graze to Raise” Team, Friday, May 4th, at 5:30 pm. 90% of our team's fundraising efforts will be returned to the GLCCA.  Walkers will start at the park strip (9th & M) and will travel part of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and through downtown Anchorage stopping at several fabulous food villas along the 5K course. The event concludes at the park strip with a Grand Finale “WOW EVENT” with dessert, live entertainment, a beer and wine garden, children's activities, and prize drawings.
 

As part of our team you will be asked to raise or donate at least $30 per adult, and $15 per child (5 -18 yrs. of age).
Each walker must fill out a Walk Registration Form listing their pledges/donations. Forms are available at the GLCCA
(3-9 M-F, 12-6 Sat. & Sun.), or call and we will send you one. We must register as a team; forms and money need to be at the GLCCA no later than 3:30 pm. Monday, April 30. Your team leaders, Gayle and Julie, will register the team and pickup the bibs that walkers will wear while grazing. More information about our team is attached to the walk registration form.

PrideFest ‘07 Call for Parade Entries and Festival Vendors & Performers

The PrideFest organizing committee is accepting applications for the annual PrideFest Parade and Festival on the Park Strip, set for June 23. If your group or organization would like to enter the Parade, or if you’d like to be an exhibitor at this year’s Festival, download the application at http://www.anchoragepride.com.  DEADLINE is June 15.

The committee is also seeking high energy performers (musicians, vocalists, drag performers, dancers, or slam
poets) for this outdoor all-ages event. Download performer application at above web site and submit NLT JUNE 1, so we can put together a fabulous slate of entertainment!

Alaska GLBT News is an e-mail broadcasting system providing information about Gay & Lesbian activities throughout Alaska. Items include upcoming Alaskan social events, news, business announcements, rental opportunities, personal items for sale or sought, etc. Broadcasts go out once weekly on Thursday; inclusions for that week need to be received by Wednesday.
