Ordinarily I would agree, and I myself refuse to refer to Kritter in that way, but she's already explained to me in person that she doesn't consider it to be derogatory.  So, this time I leave it alone on grounds of it being the least offensive of the derogatory words often aimed at Mexicans and (less often) Caribbeans.

Incidentally, given my love for beany dishes (mmm...red beans n rice...), I myself can accurately be called a beaner.
