Sounds good, I'm usually available on Sundays. Also, as a Parks & Rec employee I can recommend some good parks.

Forget it.  Until the rest of your little clique learns that "pot luck" means "BRING FOOD," I'm not participating in any more AKC pot luck events.

Then your holyness doesn't have to bring anything.

If I don't bring anything, there won't be anything to eat!  That's the whole problem!

WOW.... I wouldn't stroke your ego to high there.

Like I said if you don't want to bring food to the next one don't.

People brought what they could. Some only brought chips and soda, some brought none, and some of us slaved over the stove all day. So what?
You and I maybe more well equipped to bring more, but so what.

It's about sharing and having a good time. Not complaining about how much of what people bring.
Glad to be of Service.

Oh, you did not just try to lecture me....

People brought what they could.

No, they didn't.  Thank you for entirely missing my point.  Attempting to make me look like an egotistical arrogant asshole and lecture me on this subject doesn't change the fact that 80% of the people who showed up last time didn't bring a damn thing or contribute in any other way.  You, me, and Millie did all of the cooking, while one other person brought some chips and dip.  Everyone else just came to eat, which is very bad form I think most reasonable people would agree.

You and I maybe more well equipped to bring more, but so what.

Unlike you, I didn't recently come into a windfall car accident settlement that enables me to afford to cook feasts that feed a dozen people.  Granted, you paid for the ingredients, but it was my effort and my recipe that went into that pot o' red beans.  I don't mind cooking for people, but when I'm invited to cook for a pot luck, I fully expect to be repaid for my effort by being able to eat something other than what I cooked.  That's what.

So change the name of the event to "Oni Cooks While You Guys Party and Eat," because that's what's very likely going to happen.  Enjoy.

I think I'll weigh in on this. Y'know, TM's right.

Big surprise there, right?

Now I'm not saying if you can't bring something you're garbage. That's more than a little fucked up, even for me. But if you can't bring anything, or didn't have time to make anything, there are plenty of ways you can STILL help out. Cook, do dishes, serve drinks, y'know, little things that make the overall experience more enjoyable.

Granted it's hard to have a potluck if there's like 20 people and only 4 brought something. But there's no reason someone can't run to Wal-Mart or something and buy a 2 dollar bag of cheesy poofs or pretzels or something. Or grab a 1 dollar bottle of soda. It's not hard, or financially taxing. The general idea for a "potluck" is to bring at least enough of what you're supplying for you and whoever is with you, and hopefully a little more. But the extra is not required. For example my house would bring more than TM's cause my house is way bigger. Especially if my sisters and mother attended as well.

I've been to a lot of potlucks in my lifetime. And it was considered quite rude to show up with nothing at all. Yeah it's about having fun and all, but the point is to let a bunch of people eat by only taking just a little out of everyone's pocket to make a feast. This person brings some sodas. This person brings some hot dogs and buns. This person brings some chips. This person brings a box of ice cream bars, and there you go. A full meal, with drinks and dessert, for just a couple bucks a person. Obviously whoever is hosting will foot the larger portion, in this case the hot dogs and buns, but that doesn't mean he foots the whole bill.

There's nothing wrong with cooking for a bunch of people, I do it all the time. But I don't call it a potluck. I say "Wanna come over for dinner?" and there's a huge difference between being invited to a potluck, and being invited over for dinner.

TM is an arrogant bastard. So am I. We're not disputing that. But he's not wrong. And talking to him like he's a child throwing a temper tantrum is a really bad idea. You're acting like he's pissed off he had to cook or something. He's not. He's pissed cause he was looking forward to a variety, and didn't get it, and you're ready to crucify him as a bad man or something stupid.

Think about it, man. If he wanted to just cook and eat what he made, why wouldn't he just stay home?

This is were I had the biggest issue. Because of how it sounded.

No, they didn't

Do know every bodies personal abilities that arrived?

But hay I am going to back out of it. And go and leave it with this...

Come or don't.
It's a pot luck so please bring a dish.
If you can't, your not going to be turned away.

The idea is for people to gather and have fun.

This thread was asking what people thought of the idea. And if like before they like the idea, then we try it again. Obviously try and organize it a bit more.

I think the big problem was that Oni was expecting that to happen but didn't really inform TM, who was expecting an actual potluck.

Oni has this fetish for feeding anyone that's around if there's any sort of food.  Honestly it gets a little irritating to see food that we've paid for going toward feeding someone else when it could easily be used as leftovers, but there are times when I bitch about Cat trying to feed other people and he stops, so the occasional guest over is fine.  Lately he's been barbecuing a lot, but that's because people have been helping him a lot with yard work around here so they're basically being "paid" for their work with food, so I have no complaints.

But there are some people that I never like Cat inviting over for food, or parties, or anything like that, because they basically never contribute.  One specific person I can think of actually only seems to come over to get what he wants and leave.  But for the most part, the people we have over often generally bring something occasionally, which is probably why c@ didn't mind as much when certain people didn't bring stuff to the last potluck.  Definitely not the best time for him to let them slide, since the event depends on people bringing food, but I can understand why he didn't make a big deal over it.  While I think TM is right in being upset, I can't side with him because I understand c@'s perspective as well.

It would probably just be best to call it something other than a potluck, or just specifically require people bring food/drink and those that absolutely can't would need to find another way to contribute, like Eternimus suggested, like helping with cleanup, or maybe food preparation, stuff like that.

ROFL Fox, I know what you're really saying, but I'll respect your way of stating it because I understand why you did so. ;D

Oh, one other thing I want to point out about this thread, and I'm only pointing it out because Oni is too retarded to see it:

Yeah, and the "positive" responses thus far have been:

Setting aside for the moment how few "positive" replies there have been so far, have you noticed anything glaringly obvious that's missing from these posts?

I'll give you a hint:

Considering a few things here:

1. It was discussing the event itself, not 'we're having it, it's here, now discuss what people bring'.

2. I *see* Oni on a regular basis, and figured I'd, you know, *tell him personally* what I was bringing and didn't feel that I needed to ask him here on the forum for someone else's edification.

Indeed, I think I've already told him 2-3 ideas I had for what I intended to bring.

Thing is, I think that assuming we needed to ask publicly what to bring so that other people didn't think we were bringing nothing didn't occur to us.

Can't speak for anyone else, but considering I've not yet been to one of these Barbecues and therefore don't have a history of not bringing my share of food, the assumption that I wouldn't is a little premature.

It wasn't meant to be taken personally, Rottweiler, and nobody is accusing you of anything or assuming anything about you.  The quotes were simply an illustration of a point that I've been trying (unsuccessfully, so far) to hammer home through Oni's thick skull.  The fact that he had the audacity to attempt to talk down to me in a forum post like that only pissed me off enough to beat him about the head and shoulders with this point until either he gets it or dies from the blunt instrument trauma.

I dunno, maybe logic is a hetero thing.  Well, no, look at the thread so far:  It's been me saying "dude, your friends don't bring stuff to your potlucks, that's messed up" followed by Eternimus and Fox both going "you know...TM is right."

Not one instance of "TM is wrong."

Imagine that.
