BEER!
« on: 2009, May 03, 12:55:19 pm »
In case anyone is interested, I'm currently working out my brewing schedule for the summer.  So far, this is what I have tentatively put together:

Now - Mid May: The Trout of the Ring (Belgian Trappist style ale).  This beer is currently in my fermenter fridge, where it needs to stay until it is finished fermenting.  That will probably take another week, after which it can be racked and moved to a cool, dark place for a few weeks - freeing up the fridge for the next batch of beer.

Next up: Fat Bastard - The Other OTHER Amber Ale.  This beer needs a cooler primary fermentation (65-68ºF) than my current in-house ambient temperatures would provide, so it has to wait until the fridge frees up even though I have all the ingredients on-hand for it right now.  I don't want the ingredients to get stale, however, so I'll probably be looking to brew this up on Mother's Day weekend, depending on whether or not ToTR has fermented out or not.

Early/Mid-June: Deschain House Ale.  I have a package of the limited run WYeast Canadian/Belgian Ale yeast, which is the strain of yeast used by Canadian brewery Unibroue to make all of their Belgian style ales.  So naturally I have to use it to make my own version of my favorite Unibroue beer: Trois Pistoles.  The expensive ingredients already being taken care of (yeast, hops (thank you, Eternimus!), spices), all that remains is for me to pick up the $30 malt bill and make up a half pound batch of dark candi syrup.  This beer requires a 74ºF fermentation temperature, so it won't have to wait on my fridge.

Early September: Fallen Apple Brown Ale.  Of course.

Currently, GAY Fat Bastard Ale isn't on deck.  That's subject to change according to my whim and availability of ingredients/money for ingredients.  Being a fruit beer, it's not going to be cheap to make.

That's all I have planned out so far.  July and August have not yet been planned out, so I can take suggestions/requests/donations for those time periods if anyone has any.

Awesome. Sounds great man. I can foot you a few ingredients, just let me know what you're looking for. Unless you'd prefer just the money, in which case give me a ballpark figure. I drink the stuff too, I've no problem with helping with the stuff.

And those hops I ordered arrived last night, I just haven't gotten a chance to come by yet. Crimmy took a few days off so she's been taking most of my time. No complaints, mind.

Update time:

The Trout of the Ring (Belgian Abbey Ale): Bottled.

Fat Bastard - The Other OTHER Amber Ale: Bottled.

Deschain House Ale (Belgian Dubbel): Next up.  I have all the ingredients, just waiting a few days for the yeast starter to ferment out before I brew this batch.

Gay Fat Bastard Ale: Awaiting resources.

An added note: bottling two batches of beer has filled nearly all of the bottles in my house.  The empties I do have will suffice to bottle one more batch, after that I'm tapped out until more empties start returning to me.

What a busy brewing season this is turning out to be. ;D

Well if you want some Moose's Tooth growlers for bottling, I'd love to give you some.  You'd have to actually get permission from c@ about it though, but I'd like to see our stash of 10 or so growlers in the garage shrink to a more manageable number.  I don't think we've ever filled more than 5 or 6 at a time, and in that case, that was all the alcohol for a party that night and either one or two were being saved by one of the people that bought them for their own personal consumption throughout that week.

The problem with that idea is that you'd just get the growlers back after they've been filled. ::)

I should be back home around the 12th of July for my 2 week vacation from Iraq. Gonna have any left? I want to try sample, multiple times, some home brew.

I should have plenty left.  Everything I have bottled now won't be ready to drink until about then anyway, although it will all be carbonated by the end of June.

Update time:

Update time:

The Trout of the Ring (Belgian Abbey Ale): Bottled.  On deck.

Fat Bastard - The Other OTHER Amber Ale: Bottled.  On deck, but still a little green.

Deschain House Ale (Belgian Dubbel): Brewed.  Fermentation is kicking into high gear as I write this update.

Gay Fat Bastard Ale: Awaiting resources.

If I can possibly squeeze them in, I have plans for "GAY Fat Bastard Ale" and "You're a-Peein' Pilsener" before I end the season with "Fallen Apple Brown Ale."
