Helloooo from Germany
« on: 2009, August 02, 02:01:39 pm »
Hello y'all,

very well, I have registered myself. Now I suppose it is time to warn... ehm tell you a bit about me.

So, if you have read the subject, you know, right, I'm from Germany. So whats a beer drinking, sausage eating German doing here in our board I hear some say? Well, exactly my thought. But, well, since I got to know Taylor-MadeAK, or as I call him Bob, quite good over the last few weeks (well, as good as you can get to know someone over the internet) it was almost unavoidable to refrain from reading some posts in here.
I also was kept quite up to date with Onis big upcoming birthday party, especially the beer brewing process and even voluenteered to man the bbq for a mere planeticket there and back. Maybe Oni only heard only bad things about me, but then again, maybe a thousand bucks was just to much for him to spend on a bbq cook because my offer got declined flat...  ;)
Anyway, apparently Oni still likes to be close to a German guy, so he told Bob to tell me I should register. So here I am. A German in the Alaska Community Forum. And no, I dont know everything about beer. Actually I am more of a wine drinker (and maker, but more on that later)

What else is there to tell? Well, I am somewhat in my late 20's, used to have a bar and professionally am looking to find some placement in IT. I read a lot of books (fantasy, you just got to love the discworld series^^), watch many dvds (comedy, science fiction), listen mostly to 70s rock music and go to a lot of rennaisance fairs where 12 years ago my passion for bows, swords, sword fencing and medieval times was born and has yet to subside. Somewhat on a more minor note I enjoy cooking and almost everything to do with Japan.
My biggest none professionell time consuming activity however is the brewing of fruitwines and mead. Soon I will try my first sake which actually was the reason I got to know Taylor-MadeAK because if he doesnt have the best none-japanese sake-homebrew-homepage online, then no one does. Also his knowlege about beer & sake brewing, microbiology, even cooking (especially Japanese dishes) is quite superior to mine, so we had quite a lot of long talks about many a things.

He even made this little cardboard avatar of and for me. Which just shows me one thing... If I ever get to visit your big, beautiful and sometimes misunderstood country, I just will have to stop in Alaska and go visit him. Until it is that time, well, the next best thing might as well be your forum here.

So hello everybody. Nice to meet you all.*

Hey Weasel, welcome to Hell Gay Central AKCommunity!  Oni, the site owner, has shown interest in making wine himself, but never seems to find the balls it takes to take the plunge and buy the equipment.  Maybe you can help him find a pair, huh?

Oh, and:

Lol so you're saying you're a cannibal?  Or you just still have Q on your mind from yesterday? ;D

You'll have to wait...*consults clock*...about four more hours for an answer from him on that question, man.  He's sleeping right now.

Yeah I was sleeping, then I was helping my mother renovate her stairs. And now I am going shopping, cooking, eating, again renovate a bit and after all that I will be editing this post and answer your questions. (probably before you all get up)...

so cya

and let me add

I am not furry!

ok many hours later. so lets explain about the name... when i was just a little girl I asked my mother... no crap, wrong start!
when i was just a little boy and still in school, the internet still the "big unknown" and no normal person ever heard of email I was sitting in the schools computer room doing well, nothing productive. a senior student, sort of a friend, was signing up for an email adress and asked if I wanted one too. shure I did but what should it be? well, since I often used to have very silly hair and it tends to look red when the light is bright he said I look like catweazle (he was a tv-show character in i believe the 70s? http://www.reproducts.de/museum/2005/0104_catweazle/catweazle.jpg ) Now I am not saying he was right, but he chose the name. And wrote it wrong. Hence forth, whenever I needed a nick in the internet, i used catwiesel. boring, aint it? but its the truth...
Sidenote: sometimes I may be called Belthias, since my name is Matthias and well, if you read belgariad/mallorean saga by david eddings youll get it. it would take too long to explain. This is the nick I chose when silly lawyers start writing letters about catwiesel being a copyright protected name...

btw, did i mention I am not (a) furry? I know I know, catwiesel raises some expections but in this case, its just a random coincidence...

oh and making wine isnt expensive. well ok, getting the hardware for the first time aint cheap either but with the right guidance (and with me AND your brother what could go wrong?!) you wont regret it. And you just cant buy good homemade wine, at least not here. if you get awesome (fruit)wines and meads in the US, maybe it is smarter to put the money in good beer. and the occasional manicure... :)

I am very glad to meat you.

Hehe I know your not furry. But I figured I would give you a little bit of a hard time aboot it.

Maybe this winter I will get into wine making (been saying that for years). My money goes to shines like the party on the 22nd. I expend way to much a lot of money on entertainment for the house and our guests. Why... well I like to show people a good time.

Maybe that's a bad quote to use. But it was the first to jump into my mind.

TMAK makes it sound (and from reading your posts) like you will fit in here. So I am very glad to have you here. Just wait till a "Controversial" Topic comes up. Then the fun really begins.

Nah, no hard time there. I just had a little fun with you. I hope I will fit in too and so far (what I read) I'm pretty sure it will work out fine.

aboot? Now did the alaskens steal that from the canadiens or the other way around?

Thanks TMAK for the high praise. I hope I can do it justice. However, the "controversial" topic supplied by you is a bit out of my knowlege circle (english do I speak it: can I say that?) so I will need to wait for another one. There should be one or two already around just waiting for my two (or three) cents but right now I just dont have the time. Pretty busy at home helping my parents renovate their old and crappy house (and some time in the future mine so I guess its not all bad^^)
Also old friend of mine is back in town which doesnt help matters.

And well, 2009... Perfect number to be printing on your very first selfmade wine labels (with appropriate filling of course) Even with a big party like the one under way it should be managable to get started. If however this is not the case and the party is not only the reason for the second morgage on the house but also has more people coming than will fit into the anchorage football stadium then... where the f*** is MY plane ticket? Oh and yeah, in that case even a few bucks for wine making hardware may exceed the yearly budget...

1:50am, alarm clock rining at 7am. Damn. I better wrap this up!
Until then

Nicetameetcha!

I'm just one of the hangers-on at the Court of Kitsune... finally bowed to the "you sould get on my site" pressure and joined -- what?  Last month? -- but I haven't regretted it.  [Yet.]

Glad to see you here. I am really one of the last people that you will ever see talk about spellings and such, but since Oni is both Canadian and Alaskan, I could not help but snuff it in his face I spotted this first.

Other than that, welcome to the forum. I plan on picking your brain a bit about the lustrous world of wine making. Unlike Oni, my balls have dropped and I am ready to buy the equipment and make some when I get back from my deployment in Iraq some time next year. I figured this will give me time to read up and learn a few things...
