New computer - yey
« on: 2009, September 07, 06:04:18 pm »
Hey guys - and gals,

I've been busy with a new (crappy) job and just had to reward myself. Since my case is so old and small I desperately needed a new one, finally having the cash, I couldnt resist "my" beloved Lian-Li... Then I made the mistake (?) of looking for the prices of other hardware - and benchmarks compared to my current computer. a quick check of my current finances - and I just couldnt resist - so I ordered a new computer.

sorry for braging in here, but who else am I gonna annoy with how happy I am with my new, incoming stuff. Feel free to ignore this post at any time ;)

Case: Lian Li PC-A70B (Black)
PSU: Corsair 550W
MB:  Gigabyte GA-M770T-UD3P
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Corsair PC1600 CL8
GFX: PC ATI HD4870 1024MB GDDR5
Sound: Creative X-Fi Platinum (currently audigy platinum, trying to get the x-fi on ebay atm)
HDD: 2x WD Velociraptor 300GB 10000umin 16MB SATA2 (for OS and Progr.) + WD 500GB 16MB SATA2 (data from current PC)
DVD: ASUS E818A4
DVD: Pioneer DVR-117FBK

also:
DLink 1Gbit Switch
Cat6 Cables

and for sure I will put my Innovatek watercooling in this PC ;)

Unfortunately some parts were out of stock, so it might be a few weeks until I can put everything together. Maybe I'll even make a few pics.
Wish me luck it will be quick, in working order and I will get a good price for my old stuff.

Oh, I definately will try to unlock the 4th core on the cpu. Maybe even push the 1600 ram to the mainboard max of 1666. And I will have a look how far I can push the black edition CPU (although I probably will go back to default multi afterwards)

have a nice day

"Buy?"  What is this "buy" you speak of?  I'd be happy to set you up with a good torrent, however....

OniC@ is actually very easy to hide behind.  Why, he's even been used as a big furry stand-in for a very large and very famous villain before.  You didn't know this?  Observe:

getting torrents isnt the problem. using software legally and without restrictions however is. lets just stop right there now, everything else might get someone into trouble and no one wants that...

but hey, now that you told and showed me, I remember. oni c and han solo... sure and classic.

point taylor.

cya (later dude?)

Then stop using Windows, because even if you are using "legally" obtained copy it certainly isn't "without restrictions."  Linux distros like Mandriva, however, are both "legally" obtainable for free and almost entirely (the exceptions: certain device drivers are not available under the open source GPL) "without restrictions."

dude, why did ya go and pull the linux card? first of all, and I am pretty sure it was on purpose, you misunderstood. with restrictions I was talking about shutdowns every few hours or only to run 3 programs at once - the usual restrictions that go with the legal and pre-release  obtainable windows 7 versions.
second of all, unless linux starts using directx (or ALL games I wanna play go for linux binaries and opengl) - f*** linux. there you have it!

Man, how many times do I have to tell you?  I've been running the Windows 7 beta since it came out in February, followed by the Windows 7 x64 RC when it released, and now I've upgraded (yes, OniC@, upgraded...but you can't use x64) the RC version to the RTM (that's "release to manufacture," also obtained legally) and have yet to find any kind of "running process restriction."  Not only that, but the "shutdown" annoyance doesn't kick in on the RC version until next year.  I don't know where you're getting your information, dude, but you might want to change your sources: you've got two very reliable ones speaking to you right now.

And don't give me that line about your decrepit scanner, man.  How often you use that thing anyway?  Once, maybe twice a year?  You can live without it. =)

i understood you perfectly and my sources are just fine. but for me, a windows "test" version that runs 100% for a year and then starts to exhibit restrictions, still is restricted to me. if I gonna buy it, I can wait to install. If I dont, I do NOT want to have windows 7 for a year, then have shutdowns every 2 hours until I buy/deinstall it. And a year is nothing. current installation: 124wks, 12hrs, 22min, 13sec...

Also - if you remember correctly, we were talking about dual boot on msm.

Oh, I know.  I just have to give you a hard time. ;D  Wouldn't be AKCommunity if I didn't, you know.

Won't be around to chat today, Matt: Rachel's Birthday.  OniC@, you and your spawn had better be there, or I'll whoop your sorry ass. ~.~
