Right or Wrong?!
« on: 2007, January 30, 01:25:54 pm »
Well we can ask this many ways but lets keep this question easy.

Is Gay right or wrong?

Now lets see what you all have to say about it?
Glad to be of Service.

Gay is neither. Homosexuality is neither. It is a life choice. And right or wrong, a life choice is merely that. It works for some, is frowned upon by others. A life choice cannot be inherantly good nor evil, right nor wrong, it's what your do, or in this case, who you do with that choice that makes it good or bad.

I partially agree what Eternimus said, but one statement, “It is a life choice.” Course each person can take what it said to his/her own meaning and understanding. I took it as if he was referring being gay is a choice. I think other wise. Being gay is one own physical and emotional attraction to the same sex. Straight folks are the same; they just have that love for the opposite sex.

To me, being gay is, also, not right or wrong. It is just how one is raised and taught when it comes to what he/she thinks of being gay is right or wrong.

Why do people like red heads over blonds
or Big boobs over small?
Find Shorts more attractive the Skirts?

That was the reasoning I told some on I was gay. Not because I didn't find the female sex attractive, becuse some are, but I just dont find them apealing past the artistic view of beauty. I can say "wow shes hot" but that's  were the thought process stops. Some people say the same for blonds over red heads.

I dont think being gay is anymore of a choice than liking red heads more than blonds. It's just a preference. A definition of who some one is.

I agree completely that being gay is neither right nor wrong.  Having blue eyes is neither right nor wrong.  However I could not disagree more vehemently that being gay is a choice.  I tried with all my might, with constant earnest prayer, for nearly forty years to not be gay.  Finally I was able to accept who and what I was and found happiness then.  The people pushing the anti-marriage laws and amendments would have us believe it is a choice, but they are mistaken.  (I think some of them know that and don't care.)

I think they may actually understand that it isn't a choice, but they can fall back on the loophole that a homosexual life -is- a choice.  Maybe not the attractions, but choosing to find a partner of the same sex is a choice.  Obviously I'm not too fond of this reasoning because it actually makes sense.  A homosexual person can choose to be in a straight relationship, just as a heterosexual person can choose to be in a gay relationship.  They wont be happy and it will likely feel unnatural to them, but I don't think anti-marriage people actually care about making people happy.

That also reminds me of the reasoning that "homosexuals do have equal marriage rights" I was told once.  A friend of mine (she's not anti-gay, just has a strong belief in more traditional ways) told me "gays do have equal rights, a gay man can marry a woman just like any other man can."  It makes sense, just doesn't seem fair, since heterosexuals can marry someone that they love and care for, yet homosexuals can't.  But with some of the people against same-sex marriage, I don't think they even make a connection between love and marriage.

Same-sex couples probably just want to be recognized as being together, especially when it would allow them to take care of eachother better (health insurance benefits and such), just as straight couples can.  Of course I'm sure there would be quite a few same-sex marriages that would only be done to abuse the system, but that happens with straight marriages as well and there doesn't seem to be any effort made to stop those.

Right on! I believe sexuality (who you find sexually desirable) is not a choice. The choice is whether you opt to act on those desires. That's why some religions find they can accept gay people as parishioners- they say they can love the sinner, just not the sin. So as long as we never ACT on our desires, we're acceptable to them!
I am one of the apparently rare bisexual guys, as I've truly enjoyed sexual expression with both sexes. So even to the straight folks who understand that homosexuality is not a choice, I get resistence because it WAS my choice to partner with another man. Finding the right woman in my life might just have well resulted in an opposite sex marriage for me; God had other plans for me at this point in my life!

I don't see what business it is of any heterosexual what my sex life is.  As long as I am not sleeping with some woman's husband (I would never knowingly do that), leave me alone.  Me choosing someone I am naturally attracted to, a man, to be my partner will not hurt any man-woman couple's marriage unless they get into endless debates over the validity of my relationship.  If they have those debates and their relationship disolves, that is their problem, not mine.

MY religion says that I MAY marry a man.  MY COUNTRY's CONSTITUTION says I have a RIGHT to FREELY PRACTICE MY RELIGION.  I am sick of the tyrany of the majority being confused with democracy.  It is just the majority running the minority into the ground.

Before I go making any straight friends mad, let me explain the tone of my last post.  I had just read Saturday's Anchorage Daily News Compass piece by that... misguided, maybe even hateful woman.  I was furious and this was a handy place to vent my frustrations.
I wasn't mad at all heterosexuals.  If I upset anyone on our side, I apologize.

What defines right or wrong?
Is it a person, or socoity? If stealing is wrong, why is it then wrong to rob from the rich and give to the poor?
