A show of paws/hands/winged appendeges/ etc on the interest of a fur con

Greetings to all furs and scales and the people/furs/scales who love them!
I, Maize, am here on behalf of the comity to start a comity to judge interest in organizing a confurence here in Fairbanks. The comity would like to propose having said con out at the Chena Hot Springs Resort.

The comity is still discussing ideas for events. Depending on how well recieved this idea is will determine how fast we can assemble a comity for the Furst Annual Furbanks Furfest!

Some base ideas we have include karaoke, a movie festival, and possibly a carnival night. The floor is now open for discussion, and I and the rest of the comity are hopeful to see some serious interest in this.

Aside from the Hot Springs, were else would it be? It's kinda hard to fursuit in water. LOL.

I am all for the idea. As you can see we have started to pull the furries together down here with furmeets. That are going really well. So I think it is now becomeing possible to do something grander.

About when were you thinking about doing it?

Fox and I might be willing to car pool people there. And maybe something like those that carepool and share in the travel cost could share in the room rental cost as well.

A cool idea' though a far fetched one, but one that might work. Would be a Full on Furry Caravan. The con starts in fairbanks and ends in anchorage. Day one we all meet and have a good time in Fairbanks, sleep, drive and pick up furs on the way back or those that couldnt make it to the Fairbanks one, and end in anchorage, for a huge party.  Just a thought. lol

Though if we did a caravan we would so have to furry dress our vehicals. LOL.

Fairbanks sure has changed a lot since I lived there.  Years ago I swear there were only a handful of furs, at best, and most kept to themselves and didn't really advertise themselves as furries, lol.

Like Cat said, I'd be interested in going to something in Fairbanks in the summer, since the drive there could be exciting, plus I have friends and family in Fairbanks I could go see, lol.

I haven't been to the Chena Hot Springs Resort in over 10 years though, so I have no idea what that'd be like.  Sounds like it'd be expensive though, and I'm a poor Fox, lol.  Are there really enough furries in/around Fairbanks to have a full "con" or would it be more like a large meetup?

If it were in the summer, and the weather was nice, I'd suggest organizing something at Alaskaland, or Pioneer Park or whatever the hell they're calling it these days, lol.

I am a freshman in high school so i think a caravan is out of the question for me. *sadface*

But if i were to have any input as to where the con was held, i would suggest anchorage because its pretty much a happy medium (travel distance wise) for most... i think. o-o And i would probably be able to actually go to it. lol

Oni- You present a very interesting idea. A fur convoy could be fun. But what about stops? I don't think it would make for a good con if there is a large 5+ hour lapse between events. So if there was more to do in between, then it might work.

Goman- Fairbanks has changed in many ways. And while I agree that there may be just a handful of furs that are "out" as it were, I am sure that there are many closets that I am hoping we can coerce out. Besides, between the military bases and UAF, I am sure that there are more than what we think there may be.

DJ-OKAMII- Having the con in Anchorage wouldn't be such a bad idea. There are definately more venues and things to do. But to have it there, there would need to be major support from the furry community there. Someone would really need to take the reigns on this and build a comity or something. As for the travel, Anchorage is not really a happy medium in that regard. The only thing that changes is Fairbanks Furs would have to make the long drive to Anchorage instead of Anchorage furs driving to Fairbanks.

I almost forgot to mention... Oni did bring up a good point about wet furs... I recommended the Hot Springs mostly for the sake of any fur that may feel uncomfortable with being inside the city for a con like this. I figured seclusion was a better idea since I am unsure of how the locals would take something like this.
Even so, I am all for suggestions to make this work.

There is another problem with driving to Fairbanks for some people - AND the convoy idea. I work full time - even in the summer - so having some sort of crazy fur caravan from Fairbanks to Anchorage...

Additionally, I think Chena Hotsprings is a great place for a con, but... It sucks for Fairbanks furs, but I don't know if I'd want to drive all the way out to Fairbanks for a con. Even if we car-pooled - it just seems like a long way to go. And, if, for example, an Anchorage fur gets uncomfortable, they have nowhere to go. I know it works both ways, but I can only speak for myself in that if I go to a big fur con and then decide I want to leave, but I carpooled with someone and they don't want to, what's left for me? Sitting in the car for the rest of the night...

Just throwing my thoughts out there. If we could have the con somewhere that was a TRUE median - somewhere that was between Anchorage AND Fairbanks - I believe that would be the best bet. But I don't know of any such place right now.

I would be open to the idea of a con anywere in Alaska, but I would have to agree with Maize I don't know how people in fairbanks would take it, I would pesonally prefer a little more remote of a location, but that's  just me. And if needed I can help drive people from Fairbanks to whereever it happens.

Though getting back on topic.

An idea that was being discussed with me last night I figured I would share again. because the more it is talked about the more it sounds like a really fun and do-able idea.

The First Alaska Mobil FurCon. (okay the name has to change because now it sounds like we are pimping an oil company....)

The con can start in Farbanks, at the HotSprings (witch i think is a good Idea, I have not been there since I was a child), or at another location. We spend the day there having fun and goofing off, Close up the day with a picnick type Dinner for everyone, then people can return to there hotels (or friends places) for the night.
The next day be up and ready to be mobil by 10am and start the caravan to Anchorage. stoping at Denail for a 3 hour Lunch and break time. then back on the road.
We get to Anchorage, and all get to my place put in a movie, and realisticaly crash for the night till the next day. Were we have a huge party with DDR, Music, BBQ, and maybe a Mall invasion .... Or two. ... To bad I still can't get at least 5 suiters to join me at taking up KWHL's Bob and Mark challange to invade there station with furries. LOL.
Then at the end of the party those that need to can crash, and those that have a place can crash there.

And this way we can pick up Furs along the way to both Fairbanks, and back to Achorage. So that those in Fairbanks that can't travel to Anchorage can enjoy a get together, and Those in Anchorage that can not travel to Fairbanks can do the same. And every were in between.

We would so have to invest in a family set of Cobra WalkyTalkies for the Vehicals that way we can all have some chatter fun along the way.

OHHH and lots of Pictures. LOL.

Lets invade the state and pull as many furries out of the wood work as we can.
