Bitch bitch bitch.  You want me to drop everything and brew it today?  On our wedding anniversary?!  That be crazy talk, yo.

I have all the ingredients on-hand, but the earliest I would be able to start brewing - unless you gimp your ass over here tomorrow or Friday - is this weekend when Millie will be home to help me.  Ten gallons is a bit more than I can safely brew by myself, so I need at least one extra set of helping arms present before I can attempt it.

Edit:  Since it's already been announced that I have all the ingredients, I figured it would be kinda redundant to update the poster.  But, since you insist:

I'm gonna give Donny a call tomorrow to see if he'll come over to help me out in the next day or two.  Hopefully he'll be willing, but it's hard to say with his mom being sick and all.  If nothing else, this weekend is a 3-day weekend.  Millie is more than happy to help with the brewing, as you well know.  It's just...man, a 5 gallon batch I can do by myself.  But a ten gallon batch requires something like 15 gallons of water total to go into the mash (and 11 of those gallons are just for sparging!), and then I'll have to move the kettle outside and up to its stand after collecting the mash runnings.  One way or another I'm going to need help for that, if only because 120 pounds of hot wort and brew kettle is a bit much for me to lift and carry by myself. :o

Thanks for the anniversary wishes.  I have now spent half my life married.  Astonishing, no?

Oh, if you really want pictures of the brewing process for this beer, why not refer back to last year's thread?  Plenty of pictures in there, yo.

Brewing is finished.  Three days earlier than last year's batch, I might add.

This is a lot of beer.....

Racked half of the batch onto the fruit today.  Yes, primary fermentation was finished after just 4 days. ;D

Base beer stats:

OG: 1.046
FG: 1.013
ABV: 4.34%

The fruit will very likely double that.

Here's your pictures.  Cut me some slack, man, the process is identical to what I did (and posted pictures of) last year, I just have to do most of it twice this time.  That's all.

Status update time.

Yesterday:

- Racked the first 5 gallons off of the fruit and into a sanitized carboy for clearing (aka "bright tank").  FG is unchanged: 1.013.  The flavor is balanced, but trending toward sweet and fruity.  Rachel drank the entire 5 oz sample, proclaiming it "yummy!"

- Cleaned the fruit lees out of the bucket, re-sanitized it, added the fruit puree, and racked the second 5 gallons into it.  The color difference between the pre- and post-fruited beers is pretty striking.

Today:

- Added gelatin to the first 5 gallons in the bright tank, to assist with the clearing.  Last year when I asked if anybody had a problem with this non-kosher technique nobody spoke up, so I'm not even bothering to ask this time.  This beer will be ready to keg next week, ready to drink three weeks from today.

- No signs of renewed fermentation activity in the newly-fruited beer yet.  It can sometimes take a day or two for the yeast to rouse themselves, though, so I'm not concerned just yet.

That's all for now.
