Not allowed to talk about it, but here's a hint:

Wow.

I'm wondering how many more (if any) waves of beta testers they'll let in.  I know they've been doing the testing for months now.

Well it isn't a beta... but you would get in like 8 days early, if that helps. Also an onion helmet.

Yeah I'm probably going to do that unless I hear REALLY negative things from beta testers.  I'll just have to remember to preorder it sometime next month.

Plus Onion Helmet?  Coolness.

I ran the official benchmark program for FFXIV, y'know to see how my computer matches up.  It plays a cutscene and scores your computer as it goes.  A score of 1500-1999 means you can play it at the lowest settings with plenty of slowdown, a score of 2500-2999 is for the default settings, a score of 4500+ is capable of running at higher resolutions, and a score of 8000+ should be able to run the game on the highest settings.

My machine scored 917 on low resolution after disabling my second monitor and closing everything down.

Looks like I have a month to somehow majorly upgrade my computer if I want to play this game. D:

Yeah except mine ran with 900 something initially, and the beta runs fine. Just a little lag, but that's due to my video card. Oddly enough, when I have other things running, it actually ran HIGHER, around 1300.

It's odd, but the benchmark is NOT a good indicator of how your computer will run.

The same was true for VanaBench, as well.  I don't know what they're measuring, but that benchmark told me my computer could only run FFXI on low settings when it was in fact already running the game on registry-hacked ULTRA-HIGH settings with no problems whatsoever.  Squeenix's PC benchmark apps are a joke.

Hmm well that's good to know, maybe my computer will be able to handle FFXIV without the $800+ upgrade I was looking into, lol.

My computer scoring 700-900 and the cutscene stalling still kinad worries me, but maybe that's just a high setting or something.  The cutscene in the benchmark test did look -really- nice, and I doubt the game looks that good normally (or if it does, that's probably high-quality settings).

I guess I'll find out a month from now, I'm definitely wanting to preorder that collector's edition and get my gaming on, lol.  At the very least, if it runs poorly and I actually get into the game, it'd be an excuse to upgrade my computer since it'd be around PFD time anyways.

Edit:  Their webpage says they'll be accepting applications for their open beta in the near future or something.  I hope I'll get a chance at the beta then at least, just to see how my computer performs.  I'd be sad if I bought the game, got the 8-day early start and couldn't even run the game. D:

My only concern with FFXIV is my mate - she doesn't really like me playing MMOs, and I tend to get sucked into them far too easily (and for too long, to boot!) I'll have to be sneaky about it, methinks.

Also, I'll run the benchmark when I get home, see what happens there.

My wife likes MMO's, but not that much. And she makes it real easy to stop playing. She'll strip or put on something sexy, and stand next to or in front of my monitor. If you ever saw my wife, you'd know how easy it would be to shut the game off after that. So there is no concern for me. I just play w/e. Tell you mate to do the same thing.

Or whatever you think is cute. I can promise you won't care about the game. Unless you're like my uncle Thomas.

Ditto every byte of this.  Boobies > videogames every time. ;D
