The hotel should definitely take responsibility for that happening, of course.  If they want to pin the blame on the housekeeper(s) that needed to clean the room, that's up to the hotel, but I doubt many hotels even encourage good cleaning habits.

I'd like to say the woman should have kept a better eye on the kid, but that's not really right.  Having watched a young child quite a bit for the last 4 years, I know it's not realistic to watch a child every single moment they're around, and with quick events like this, it's easy to miss even if you're watching them a lot.  It sucks that this happened, but if anyone is at fault, it's the hotel for not thoroughly cleaning the room.

I agree; poor little guy...

I talked to my mother on this subject today. As saddened and grossed out about it as she is, she places the blame on the hotel cleaning service, too. She's spent a lot of time in hotel rooms (and not for carnal reasons) and she's remarked that the cleaning people don't actually clean the bedsheets. They flip them over a couple of times before they're ever washed. So, it's no wonder the condom wasn't found.

Someone just wasn't doing their job! And now a small child has an incurable STD because of it.
