STUDENT TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS

THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT

Administrative Assistant

Campbell Creek Science Center

(Start 05/29/07; 20-40 hrs per week)

(Salary $9.97 - $11.29 per hour)

 

Applications must be received by Counselors by 05/15/07

 

Description of major duties:

1. Act as Science Center receptionist - Answer incoming phone calls, screen calls, take messages, and route calls to employees; Greet all visitors, give tours upon request, give overview of available activities and programs, maintain Science Center lobby and associated areas in a neat and orderly manner ; keep informational materials/brochures stocked;

 

2. Science Center user group support - Coordinate reservations, site visits and facilities orientation for Science Center staff, instructors, rental groups and program recipients;

 

3. Science Center office support - Photocopying; Includes copying memos, travel vouchers, and other paperwork as necessary; Filing - Includes filing of memos, letters, vouchers, time and attendance reports and other paperwork as necessary; Word Processing/Computer - Includes typing of memos, letters, updating Science Center calendar, and data entry on spreadsheets as necessary, provide logistical office support for Science Center educational programs as requested; and;

 

4. Mail Distribution - Pick up and distribute mail to employee and field camp mailboxes.

 

Although actually employed by the Anchorage School District, this position is at the Bureau of Land Management, Campbell Creek Science Center, 6881 Abbott Loop Road. The student may work up to 20 hours a week, with a possibility for full time schedule later in the summer (40-hour work week).

 

We are seeking the following types of skills:

1. Ability to communicate accurately with customers both face to face and by telephone;

2. Skill and ability to use IBM compatible computer word processing software;

3. Ability to work independently after initial training;

4. Ability to be punctual and reliable;

5. Ability to complete work assignments despite interruptions.

 

Submit a recent high school transcript, resume of job/other experience relative, cover letter, and letter/list of references addressed to the job contact listed at the bottom of this announcement to your high school counselor or career resource advisor; who will then fax your package to Tonyua Abrom (271-4573) by Friday, May 11, 2007.

In addition, if you have relatives working for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) you must provide the name(s) and relationship(s) of those relatives. Applications will be screened to ensure you have at least a 2.0 grade point average.

 

Only those applications submitted through the high school counselors will be considered. The BLM selects the person best qualified for the job based on the information provided in resumes, comments from references, former supervisors, and information you provide during interview.
