Hai there!
« on: 2011, June 23, 11:29:18 am »
Hey, my names Joe. I was born in Kenai and have lived there my whole life. I just became a furry about a month ago, not to mention I'm only 13. My two fursonas (which contradict my username) are red foxes. Now my favorite animal is technically a tundra wolf but I have always felt a strong connection with red foxes so that is where my username and fursona's species come from. Otherwise my interests include anime, tennis, and biology. So yeah, see you around.

Hey there, welcome to AKC.  Kenai huh?  Sounds... exciting, lol.

So what does "being furry" mean to you?  I'm curious since you say you have two fursonas, and that wouldn't fit into my own personal idea of what furry is.

Well, its not just that I have fursonas. Now there are MANY points of view of what a furry is as you probably know. However I disagree with the ones I most typically hear. Well back to the point. I think that 'being a furry' is a combination of a few things. Most importantly, you have to have an interest in the anthropomorphic arts in some way shape or form. You secondly must view yourself as a furry however announcing it is entirely optional. Thirdly, you do NOT need a fursona (which I have heard of two types of actually, ones for RP and furry versions of yourself) although it in my opinion is fun to have one, it is not necessary. For example it is not necessary to be baptized in Christianity however it is a good thing to do. Fourth, and lastly, you cant just be some random dude who liked 'Kung Fu Panda 2' it has to be a full on interest. Very similar to how people who meet at sci-fi conventions have a true interest in sci-fi. Edit: If I put that confusingly no I do not mean you have to go to a convention to be a furry.

So any more questions or does that clear things up? :)

And also, is it me or is this place super quiet lately?

What do you think of Kenia?

Do you enjoy fishing?

How did you decide on your fursona's?

I think you are the youngest furry I have ever meet?

How did you discover the furryness with in?

What about furry inspires or calls to you?

Why did you decide on two furry personas?
Glad to be of Service.

Kenai? Nice little town. Sadly a supreme lack of furries.

Fishing? Depends on the mood I'm in and the type but for salmon usually.

Fursonas? Did I not go over this? :P I have alaways felt a connection to foxes and made them as nutty as me  ;D

Youngest furry? I have a furry friend who is younger than me. Told him about it. Only other fur in the area.

Furrieness within? I was lost. Had this obsession going with wolves and foxes. Asked for help online. Told I was normal and was introduced to the fandom. At first I didn't care but later something inside me just sprouted.

Furry inspiring and calling aspects? Oof, its hard to explain.... basically everything. I particularally like the artwork though. And the other thing is if anthropomorphic beings actually existed their lifestyle (being partly animals) would in all likelihood be more simple. simplicity suits me.

2 furry personas? One for fight RP one for normal. (and I'm working on a third that's not for RP he's a furry version of myself... slow process it is though)

I know there are at least 4 other furries in your area. Your not alone.

Fox's I think are the most playful of all furries, well next to cats. LOL.

Your welcome to introduce him to AKC.

THere is a thread on here "What is furry" That you might enjoy, and it sounds like you could add some very well thought out information to.

RP, Normal. ... What is Normal? LOL

How were you introduced to the furry fandom?

I know when I discovered it around your age, it was completely by accident and it was actually the adult side of the furry fandom I found first.  I had to actually search to figure out what furries were other than another sexual fetish, lol.

I do agree that there are a huge number of different interpretations on what 'being furry' means.  I think the only thing one furry definitely has in common with another is the general interest in anthropomorphic characters.  Personally, I see my fursona as an extension of myself.  To me it's basically a more ideal version of myself, more outgoing, more playful, stuff like that.  It's who I would like to be if I didn't have as many insecurities and inhibitions.

I do have to disagree on the fursona thing though.  Whether it's an alter ego or a character or just an online name/identity, I believe all furries should have at least one fursona.  I may have a less strict idea of what a fursona is though.  If someone in the fandom goes by the name "Shadowstar Wolf" and is active in the community through forums or by contributing art or something, but does not have like, a description of some anthropomorphic wolf that is "them", I would consider the name itself their fursona.  Or it could just be a vague idea like a typical red fox with spots in its fur pattern, rather than something with every detail thought out.

I don't think I've ever seen someone in the furry fandom without a fursona of some sort though, which could be why I see it as a requirement.  To me it just seems to be what separates furries from general fans of anthropomorphic art.

Seriously? Dang I wonder if I know any furries who aren't open about it.

I already answered how I became a furry but I will point it out:  I was lost. Had this obsession going with wolves and foxes. Asked for help online. Told I was normal and was introduced to the fandom.

Well, I will agree a fursona is a clear indication of being a furry because it takes a certain level of obsession. If you have that level of obsession in my eyes and you consider yourself a furry you are a furry. But most people obsessed enough with anthro art to be considered a furry will have a fursona stereotyping the two together as I see it. But I reiterate that I do not feel a fursona is nessacary to be a furry. I don't know, that's just me.

And lastly, everyone should know furry =/= yiff despite google image results.

That's not answering my question though, which is why I asked it. :P  "How were you introduced to the furry fandom?" is a different question than "How did you become a furry?"  You said you asked for help online, I'm curious where you went to talk to someone (especially someone that did not have a negative view of furries), as well as where they directed you to introduce you to the fandom.

Well, that makes more sense :P I went to talk to someone on a different forum... Wanna know where... I hate talking about that, It was Virtual Teen. Most people aren't too judgmental there, so nobody seems to have a negative attitude to furries. I made a thread and an actual furry introduced me.  I was directed to Wikipedia for more than the two sentences of information I had. Which I only read the first couple sentences of wiki too XD the rest I researched I suppose.

Forums... That's really it. But I figured it would be nice to not only meet people internationally but around my community and state as well. Not to mention the number of furries here.

There are furries all over Alaska.

The ones that are not still closeted or immature are on here.

House Kitsune' has parties all the time, and furries are ALWAYS invited. We do have an annual Furry party that people as far as Fairbanks come to join in the fun and games.
Glad to be of Service.

Well, that is a bit of a surprise. But I guess it makes sense.

Wait, I don't get the second part. Could you reword it please?

The annual furry party, that's the one that's at 534 flower street right?
