If she's going to go that route, she should be targeting the poor job that is being done teaching young people about safe sex since that contributes more to the spread of HIV than just being gay.  And with the big problem with HIV/AIDS in Africa, wouldn't that make black people far more of a threat than gay people?  Although I suppose she can't really get away with saying it's a problem to teach kids "It's okay to be black."

She's an idiot and the problem she's talking about is being caused by people (probably like herself) that are too prudish to teach this country's youth to not be idiots.

Ooh this topic. I don't feel like saying all I know so I'll just summarize it.

If gays are bad because of diseases, then parents are bad too. Its all unprotected sex. All a possibility of disease transfer. And these days sexual intimacy is far too common, it makes EVEN LESS sense to discriminate against gays (as in it never did make sense in case I was unclear).

Yes it is a touchy subject.

Which is what makes it so funny.

The fact that our elected representatives are so stupid and narrow minded is hilarious.

The fact that they KEEP being elected is more on the sad part. For a straight individual, this is just funny. For the oppressed (the GLBTAWTFBBQ alphabet soup community in this case) it should be blindingly outraging, and make you want to do something about it. This entire sub-forum is to keep people informed. The entire point of threads like this is to keep that fire lit under your asses that's made you guys progress this far. And for people like me, the big, arrogant alpha hetero-male types that don't get discriminated against, all it takes for us to be complacent in the silencing of the countless gays out there, is to keep silent ourselves. Personally, I know lots of gay people. Some are better parents than the straight religious right. Some are worse. Just like there are good and bad straight parents. Good and bad marriages. No one side is perfect. It's not possible.

But if we don't point out the absurdity of those in "power" then the system will never change. I have pointed out blinding levels of retardism many times over. I have organized petitions, contacted our legislature, I've even spoken to the Governor and Senator in person to attempt to point out the embarrassing level of brain damage in congress. Not just on gay rights. But obviously I can't do it alone, especially when I have absolutely no emotional stake in the state of homosexual affairs. I don't put near the energy into it as I would were I a gay man. So I piss off the community poking fun at their oppression and it does one of two things.

1) Makes them hate me. I don't care, so this does nothing but give the hater something to stew over.

2) Invoke thought and/or action. This is usually the result I hope for.

Fact of the matter is I don't care whether gays are treated equally or not. I don't care if ANYONE is treated equally or not. I just think it's really, really dumb to discriminate against someone just because of who they find attractive. Or the color of their skin. Or what invisible man they like. It's all just ignorance and stupidity, and everyone KNOWS I hate those.
