« on: 2007, February 02, 07:58:46 am »
Do you think that Humankind needs a faith, a god, a suprime being to belive in in order for there life to have some kind of meaning?
Could you go through your life if you found out that God is Faulse?
Glad to be of Service.

I could, easily. Know why? Wether the gods I believe in are there or not, it's their stories, their deeds that showed me a better way to live. It's the same, I would think, with Christianity. Or any other religion. You shouldn't have faith and act like a good person because you expect a reward. You should do it because it's the right thing to do. If you believe in a religion you should follow those principles wether or not your god is around. Because all the stories are just that. Stories. Examples. Ideals. The gods of any religion give you a framework to build yourself around. If you find out your god is false, you shouldn't be disheartened. You should be proud you lived your life, or are living your life, to the fullest. I was told once "Faith doesn't exist because of God, God exists because of Faith." And for a situation like what you asked, if you believe, and others believe, your deity will be there.

My children and my family give my life meaning.  My faith gives me direction, and hope.  Faith helps me over rough times.

For example: in my son's recent brain surgery to remove a tumor, my faith helped keep me calm.  Knowing that friends, family, and others were praying for my son gave me great reassurance, especially when the surgery went nearly twice as long as expected.   There wasn't anything I could do, but pray.

I'm an athiest, I have a set meaning/goal for my life.  I'm walking proof that you don't need God or any religion to have a purpose in life.  Or at least, you don't need a belief in God.  It's possible that there is a higher power that has given my life a specific purpose, but from my point of view, I don't see that, I see it as being my own choice and free will.

My friends and family are my purpose in life.  It's my goal to be able to take care of the people I love.  Unfortunately, the only support I can really give people is giving them someone to talk to when they need it.  But one day I hope to be able to do more.  That's one reason why I'm going to school, to get a good job and be able to help the people I care about if they need it.

Do you think Humankind would be how it is now if there was no faith in a higher being, no God's, no Christ, no Religion?

Although my faith is important to me, I do have to beleive that without the religious part of our society we might have a lot less discrimination, intolerance, and hatred in this world.  Look who leads our nation in discriminating against their own GLBT family members, in the name of God's love.

So then why is religion the cause of everything it teaches against?

It is too easy for people to abuse religion and rise to power over others, and in the process make the lives of others miserable.

mmm...so with that said religioun is the cause of pain and suffering. ... well that's  kinda counter productive. LOL.

I think people need to be lead, some more so than others. And because of that need are willing to place themselfs in a belief system that causes pain agaist others at times.

I believe everyone has the freedom of religion, but does not have the right to push that on other people.
