Campaign Update

Thanks to all those who attended the initial campaign organizing meetings in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. We have successfully launched organizing groups in these main cities but are still looking for additional people interested in working locally against this advisory vote (support from Anchorage, Fairbanks or Juneau is available). The response has been phenomenal and support continues to grow across the state.  On a daily basis we are receiving e-mails and phone calls from people actively wanting to be a part of this historic campaign.

Last week, a diverse group of people from different areas of the state met to officially begin the campaign organization that would lead this effort. "Alaskan Together" is the official name of the campaign that will lead the fight to defeat the advisory vote on April 3 and we have begun raising  money across the state.

Advisory Vote Language

Shall the legislature adopt a proposed amendment to the state constitution to be considered by voters at the 2008 general election that would prohibit the state, or municipality or other subdivision of the state, from providing employment benefits to same-sex partners of public employees and to same-sex partners of public employee retirees?

We have already identified offices for Anchorage and Fairbanks and we will be looking for office space in Juneau shortly. We plan to expand our organizing efforts in other areas as people and resources are available to help the campaign. We need everyone's help and involvement in building and organizing opposition to this advisory vote.

Come join our organizing efforts and volunteer during these upcoming events. If you are not located in one of these particular communities, but know friends, relatives, or supporters who are willing to lend a hand in defeating this advisory vote, please forward this message to them.

We are working to develop a web site in the coming weeks that will provide background information on this vote, campaign information, ways to get involved and accept donations.
